Hybrid electric vehicles (hybrids) are a technology that
combines the internal combustion engine of a
conventional vehicle with the battery and electric motor
of an electric vehicle. There has been a rapid consumer
acceptance of hybrids with most major manufacturers now
expanding their hybrid product lines. Different
manufacturers are using different approaches and the
technology platforms are widening. These range from
plug-in hybrids, to diesel/electric hybrids operating on
biodiesel, to hydrogen fuel cell based hybrids operating
a gasoline engine on E85 ethanol blends.
